WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team scored four second half goals as the Chargers downed the Saint Thomas Aquinas Spartans 5-0 at Kayo Field on Thursday afternoon. With the win, New Haven is now 3-0-0 on the season.
KEY PLAYERS
· Danielle Widmann (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow), Sarah Bosco (Berlin, Conn./Berlin), Sierra Stein (Sherman, Conn./Immaculate), Tana Tufts (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) and Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) all found the back of the net for the Chargers.
· Allison Morgan (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional) had two assists for New Haven with Anne White, Sorcha Ni Bhraonain (Galway, Ireland/Colaiste Cholmcille) and Josette Breeden (Vacaville, Calif./Vanden) each collecting one helper.
· Deandra Nash (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and Kyra Wolonsavich (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) kept the Spartans off the scoreboard, earning a combined shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· After several close chances, the Chargers broke through in the 39th minute off a corner kick when Widmann knocked home a ball that was served in by Morgan and flicked on by White.
· Opening the second half, New Haven scored twice in the first 15 minutes. Bosco delivered the first off a rocket into the top right corner.
· Less than five minutes later, Stein picked up her first goal of the season when she took a feed from Ni Bhraonain and drove a ball from the top of the box past the keeper to the lower left.
· Tufts and Morello capped the scoring each, netting their first goal of the season. Tufts' came off a rebound and Morello delivered from a free kick 35 yards out.
TURNING POINT
· The Blue and Gold started the second half strong on the offensive end. After Bosco's goal, Stein's tally less than five minutes later seemingly put the match in hand.
BY THE NUMBERS
· The five goals by New Haven were the most since netting a 5-1 victory in a Northeast-10 Championship quarterfinal at Merrimack on Nov. 5, 2013.
· The Chargers outshot the Spartans 26-4 including 16-3 in attempts on target.
· The Blue and Gold took seven corners in the match.
· New Haven is now 7-0-0 all-time against St. Thomas Aquinas. It was the first match between the two schools since Oct. 6, 2007.

New Haven makes the trip to Syracuse, N.Y. to open its conference schedule at Le Moyne on Saturday, Sept. 10. Opening kick is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
