WEST HAVEN, Conn. –
Khayla Trowell (Temple Hills, Md./Elizabeth Seton Catholic) scored a career-high 15 points, but the University of New Haven women's basketball team suffered a hard-fought 62-51 setback in a Northeast-10 Conference game to the Assumption Greyhounds on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers are now 2-13 overall and 1-9 in the NE10.

New Haven jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the first three-plus minutes of the game, hitting its first five shots from the floor including five points each from Trowell and
Kim Talley (Quakertown, Pa./Lansdale Catholic). The Greyhounds responded with a 10-0 run in the next four minutes to take a 17-12 lead, before holding a 21-16 lead at the end of the first period. Assumption built the lead to nine in the early stages of the second quarter before a 7-2 Chargers run cut the lead to 29-26 with 2:45 left in the half.

Trailing 41-33 midway through the third period, New Haven battled back with a 6-0 run as an
Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) layup and pair of free throws sandwiched a Trowell bucket, cutting the edge to 41-39. The Blue and Gold held the game close until a run by the Greyhounds pushed the lead to 53-43 at the 5:40 mark of the fourth quarter. The teams traded baskets down the stretch with Assumption maintaining its lead until the final horn.

HIGHLIGHTS
- New Haven placed three players in double-figure scoring lead by Trowell with 15 points. Katia Oge (New City, N.Y./Immaculate Heart Academy) and Kerr each netted 10.
- The 15 points from Trowell surpassed her previous career-high of nine, which she accomplished twice, most recently against Bentley on Jan. 7. She connected on 5-for-8 shots from the floor and went 5-for-6 from the line.
- Six of Kerr's seven rebounds were on the offensive glass.
- The Chargers went 17-of-24 from the line, the fourth time this season they have connected on 15 or more shots from the stripe.
FIRST HALF NOTES
- Trowell and Oge each scored seven points in the opening 20 minutes with Trowell going 3-for-3 from the field.
- Sade King (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon / Hampton University) had four points and three assists with no turnovers in the half.
- As a team, the Chargers shot 40 percent from the floor and connected on six of their eight free throw attempts.
SECOND HALF NOTES
- The Chargers held Assumption to 36.4 percent from the field in the half.
- Trowell and Kerr each had eight points in the frame.
