WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's tennis team dropped a Northeast-10 match to the Warriors of Merrimack College on Sunday afternoon at the New Haven Tennis Courts.
New Haven won games at all three doubles courts, however sophomore
Nicole Calabrese (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) and junior
Caitlyn Burridge (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) came closest to a victory at No. 3 doubles, but ultimately dropped the match, 8-6 to opponents Mackenzie Blair and Abbie Sartori.
Freshman
Stephanie Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) battled at No. 1 singles, dropping the first set, 6-3 and coming back to take the next set, 6-2, but fell short in the tiebreak set by a 10-4 score. Freshman
Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) also fought for the Chargers at No. 2 doubles but was defeated by Lauren Persson, 6-4, 6-2.
After a busy weekend, the Chargers have only one day off and return to action for a tough contest at Adelphi on Tuesday, October 3
rd. First serve at the Adelphi Tennis Courts is set for 1:30 pm.
