WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team scored a late goal, but it was not enough as the Chargers fell to the Southern New Hampshire Penmen by a score of 3-1 at Kayo Field on Tuesday evening.
The Penmen scored two goals in the first 30 minutes of action to gain the early lead over the Chargers. Southern New Hampshire found the mesh once more to extend the lead to 3-0.
New Haven's lone goal snapped the Penmen's shutout in the 79
th minute when junior
Pablo Perez (Medellin, Columbia/West Haven) headed home a cross from the distance off the far side from the foot of graduate student
Simao Sousa Branca (Porto, Portugal/Colegio Luso Internacional do Porto). Perez had another header shot less than one minute later but a nice save was made by Southern New Hampshire keeper, Daniel Milton to retain the 3-1 score.
In net, sophomore goalkeeper
Stefano Lorusso (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart College) made eight saves. As a team, New Haven finished with eight shots on the afternoon, five of them on target. The Chargers also had the edge in corner kicks, 4-2.
