WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's soccer fell to Mercy College, 1-0 in a non-conference matchup on Saturday evening at Kayo Field.
The Chargers saw a quick opportunity on goal in the beginning of the game as senior
Rachel Dempsey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) just missed a header shot left. The contest remained scoreless for the majority of the first half until Mercy broke through with the lone goal in the 30
th minute.
New Haven came out strong to start the second half with a few shots by Dempsey, freshman
Jenna Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) and junior
Annie White (West Nyack, N.Y./Pearl River), but could not capitalize on any of the opportunities. Junior goalkeeper
Kyra Wolonsavich (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) had two saves on the night. Â
Prior to the match, the Chargers honored their six seniors as part of the annual Senior Day ceremony.
Kelly Quigley (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury Memorial),
Allison Morgan (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional),
Danielle Matassa (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown North),
Rachel Dempsey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip),
Nicole Caruso (Portland, Conn./Portland), and
Lauren Low (Dover, Del., Dover) were all honored for their four years on the women's soccer team.
The Chargers return to Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday, October 17 when they host American International. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m., and for fans who cannot attend the contest,
