Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Quigley Strikes, Women's Soccer Settles for 1-1 (2-OT) Draw Against AIC

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Kelly Quigley (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury Memorial) scored her second goal of the season for the University of New Haven women's soccer team, but the American International Yellow Jackets answered soon after as the teams settled for a 1-1 draw in a Northeast-10 conference match at a chilly Kayo Field on Tuesday evening.

Freshman goalkeeper Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wilkes-Barre) made four saves in the first half in between the pipes while on the other side, seniors Rachel Dempsey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) and Allison Morgan (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional) each had a shot on goal, however neither team was able to produce by the midway point.

New Haven put two shots on target early in the second half before senior Kelly Quigley (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury Memorial) scored her second career goal, collecting a pass from freshman Samantha Roth (Hicksville, N.Y.), getting a good look at the goal and striking on a long 25-yard kick to take the 1-0 lead. American International evened the match within six minutes, putting home a pass that was deflected off a Yellow Jacket body.

Despite American International out-shooting New Haven, 4-0 in the first overtime period, the Chargers played solid defense to preserve the score. New Haven's best opportunity to re-gain the lead and also cap off the win came in the final seconds of double overtime when Quigley fed a corner kick in the 110th minute to Dempsey, who's header shot was perfectly on target, but saved by Yellow Jacket keeper, Mikayla Demanche.

On the afternoon, Davis made 11 stops in goal, eight in regulation and three in extra time. Dempsey finished with three shots on goal, Quigley had two and senior Allison Morgan (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional) had one.

New Haven returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 21st at Merrimack for a 1:00 pm match on Martone-Mejail Field. The Chargers will then return home for a match against Saint Anselm on October 25th, and finish out the regular season on Saturday, October 28th at Bentley.
