Field Hockey Celebrates Senior Day, Bazan Blasts First Career Goal

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven field hockey team fell to the Southern New Hampshire Penmen on a beautiful Saturday afternoon by a score of 12-1. Prior to the match, the team honored its three seniors; Alyssa Blemings (Westville, N.J./Gateway Regional), Cathy Cinque (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) and Meredith Michel (Lititz, Pa./Warwick).

Southern New Hampshire came out of the locker room hot, scoring eight goals by the halftime break. Freshman Maecy Chlebowski (Matamoras, Pa./Delaware Valley) had a shot in the final minutes of the first half as she went one-on-one with a defender on the near side, but her shot went just right of the net.

Southern New Hampshire scored two more goals to open up the second half, however freshman Nina Bazan (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) scored the first ever Charger goal at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium in the 60th minute, winding up on a hard shot just inside the circle. Freshman goalkeeper Natalie Shaker (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) was able to slow down the Penmen attack for the remainder of the second half, only letting in one more Penmen shot.

On the day, Shaker made 24 saves in the cage, increasing her total to 201 saves on the season, which ranks second in the NE10 and all of NCAA Division II.

New Haven returns to the Blue and Gold turf for their next match against Lindenwood on Monday, October 23rd. Game time is scheduled to start at 11:00 am at DellaCamera Stadium. For fans unable to attend the match, live stats and video will be available on the Charger Sports Network.
