Field Hockey Falls to Lindenwood in Matinee Game

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven field hockey team fell to Lindenwood University, 8-0 early Monday afternoon at DellaCamera Stadium.

The Lions scored three quick goals in the first eight minutes of the game, but then the Chargers defense held Lindenwood scoreless for the following 20 minutes. Lindenwood scored two more goals before halftime to take a 5-0 lead.

The Chargers defense continued to play tough in the second half and only allowed three more goals. New Haven's offense saw an opportunity to put one in the back of the net when sophomore Ashley Higgins (Hatfield, Mass./Smith Academy) sent a ball into the circle that reflected out of bounds off freshman Nina Bazan (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining)'s stick.

In the cage, freshman goalkeeper Natalie Shaker (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) made 17 stops on the afternoon, improving her save total to 218 this season. The Chargers defense faced 14 defensive corners throughout the game.

The Chargers return to DellaCamera stadium for the final home game of the season on Wednesday, October 25 when they host Mercy. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. Live stats and video will be available on Charger Sports Network for fans who cannot attend the game.
