WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's tennis team won their second-straight match at the University of New Haven Tennis Courts on Sunday evening, defeating the Franklin Pierce Ravens in a Northeast-10 conference match by a 7-2 score.
The Chargers swept the Ravens in doubles action, first with freshmen Stephanie and Gonzalez and
Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) defeating Alana Wyatt and Sonia Rodrigues, 8-2. New Haven also earned a point at No. 2 doubles as sophomore
Angela Mercurio (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip) and junior
Lauryn Burridge (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) took down Sarah Rich and Kelly O'Donnell by a tight 9-7 score, and junior
Caitlyn Burridge (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) and
Nicole Calabrese (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) got a win by default.
At No. 1 singles, Gonzalez improved her singles record to 7-2 by defeating Alana Wyatt in straight-sets with two 6-1 scores. Rodriguez earned a win at No. 2 singles, defeating her opponent 8-1 in an eight-game pro set match, 8-1. Clyne also secured a win for New Haven, 6-1, 6-0 against Lexi Dasilva. Calabrese also got a win by default at No. 6 singles.
With the win, the Chargers improve their record to 5-7 overall and 4-6 in the NE10. The team returns to action on Wednesday, October 11th for a road NE10 match at Assumption, where first serve at the Assumption College Tennis Courts is set for 3:30 pm.
