Jack Zagaja (Merrick, N.Y./St. Dominic) hit two home runs as the University of New Haven baseball team won its third straight game to open the season, downing the Stonehill Skyhawks 8-3 at the Northeast Challenge on Saturday night.

Trailing 2-0 entering the fourth, the Chargers exploded for four runs.
Tom Walraven (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) led off with a single and moved to third on an error before coming in to score on a
Nick Russo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) sacrifice fly. Not done,
Nick Perrelli (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) reached on a fielder's choice and
Joe Caico (Hopedale, Mass./Worcester (MA)) walked in front of Zagaja who clocked his first homer of the season to put New Haven up 4-2.

The Blue and Gold added to its lead in the fifth when Walraven drilled his first long ball of the year, making it 5-2. After the Skyhawks scored in the top of the sixth, the Chargers scored the final runs of the game in the bottom of the inning. Leading off the frame,
Robert Petrillo (Branford, Conn./Branford) singled. Perrelli followed with a single, moving Petrillo to third before he came in to score on an error. Two batters later, Zagaja struck again, driving out his second homer of the game to make it 8-3.

Vincent Aprea (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) (1-0) picked up the win allowing two runs in five innings of work, striking out four.

New Haven concludes play at the Northeast Challenge on Sunday, taking on Wilmington at noon.Â
