Wormack Notches Second Straight Double-Double for Women's Basketball Against Saint Rose

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) recorded her second consecutive double-double, but the University of New Haven women's basketball team fell to the Saint Rose Golden Knights 54-42 in a Northeast-10 Conference Game on Play4Kay day on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers are now 5-16 overall and 4-12 in conference play.

Wormack led the Chargers with 11 points, 14 rebounds, one shy of her career high, and three blocks. The trio of rejected shots gives her 44 on the season, moving into seventh place on the New Haven single-season list and third all-time in a season among freshmen for the Chargers. Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) and Sade King (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon / Hampton University) each scored eight while Allieyah Cubbage (North Plainfield, N.J./Roselle Catholic) finished with seven points and six rebounds. For the game, the Blue and Gold held a 43-40 advantage in rebounding including 17-8 on the offensive glass.

The beginning of the contest was evenly matched as a jumper by Khayla Trowell (Temple Hills, Md./Elizabeth Seton Catholic) tied things at 11-11 with 3:33 remaining in the first. A 6-0 Saint Rose spurt was countered by a 9-2 New Haven run, capped by a Shannon Corridon (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton) layup, giving the Chargers a 20-19 lead midway through the second period. Neither team pulled away in the final minutes of the half as the Blue and Gold took a 26-25 lead into the locker room.

The Golden Knights tied the game in the early going of the third quarter before a three-pointer by Kerr pushed the Chargers back on top 32-29 with 6:40 left in the frame. Saint Rose then closed the period on a 12-4 run taking a 41-36 lead into the fourth before pulling away in the late stages.
