Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Reh Nets Game-Winner with 23 Seconds Remaining as No. 11 New Haven Takes 11-10 Win over Tiffin

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore midfielder Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford)'s second goal of the afternoon was the only one that mattered as she scored the game-winning tally with 23 seconds remaining to lift the No. 11 New Haven women's lacrosse (3-0 overall) team to an 11-10 win over Tiffin on Sunday afternoon.

Reh was one of seven different players who scored against the Dragons and one of four who all finished with a team-high two goals apiece. Overall, junior Jessica Mazliah (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) led the Chargers offense with six points on a pair of goals while adding a career-high four assists. Joining her and Reh with two goals each was senior Caitlin O'Brien (Branford, Conn./Branford) and freshman Hailey Rattigan (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity). O'Brien has now finished with two or more in all three games this season, while Rattigan has put up a pair of goals in the last two games.

Following Mazliah in the assist column was O'Brien who added a pair of helpers for four points while Reh and Galler each added one assist to finish with three and two points, respectively.

Between the pipes, freshman Erica Rinsky (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) earned her second victory wearing the Blue and Gold, closing out her first complete game with seven saves while facing 23 shots total. As a team, New Haven finished with 21 total shots, forcing the Dragon's Kat Schneeberger to make three saves.

HIGHLIGHTS

·         New Haven opened up the game on fire as O'Brien and Rattigan would score 53 seconds apart to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead just over two minutes into the action. O'Brien would have a hand in both goals as she provided the assist for Rattigan's goal while Samantha Galler (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) added her first point of the day, assisting O'Brien

·         After the Dragons went back-to-back to tie the game, Cietek netted her only score of the day, a free position attempt for her team-leading 10th of the season. The graduate student had a straight away run and after eliminating half of the space fired the shot to the lower right corner bouncing off the turf for the goal.

·         Following Cietek's marker, the two squads began a series of four straight four-goal rallies, trading leads on all four runs. The first of those rally's came from the Dragons who spanned the four goals on both sides of the halftime intermission.

·         After the Dragons opened the second half with a score 65 seconds into the action, New Haven's offense kicked into gear and began its first four-goal rally with Belanger ending the drought 54 seconds after that Tiffin score. That momentum shifter came as Mazliah dumped a pass over the top of the goal where Belanger rerouted the pass into the back of the net.

·         Mazliah would have a hand in the first three goals in the rally for New Haven as she would provide another assist, this time to Rattigan before finding the back of the net herself to tie the game at six with 25:55 remaining. The second assist for Mazliah was nearly an exact match to her previous as she again provided the pass over the top of the goal for Rattigan to redirect.

·         Mazliah's goal came off a helper from Reh as she accepted the pass on the left of the crease and after curling around to the top, fired a low shot to even the score.

·         Just 45 seconds later Reh put her name on the board when she fought through three Tiffin defenders to provide the go-ahead tally.

·         The Dragons would then begin their second four-goal rally, this one spanning nearly 13 minutes before Mazliah broke the momentum inside the 10 minute mark working singlehandedly for her second score of the afternoon.

·         New Haven would again keep the pressure on as Mazliah went back to work in the assist category, connecting with Galler for her first of the season and O'Brien for her second of the game and the game-tying score with 3:35 remaining.

·         After a defensive stop by Hannah Johnson (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), the Chargers took over possession with 100 seconds remaining. After a timeout to set up the game-winning score, Reh and O'Brien connected with 23 seconds remaining for the sixth and final lead change of the day.
