PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Four players each recorded a hit and
Vincent Aprea (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) and
Colin Keyes (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) each tossed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen, but the University of New Haven baseball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division game to the Pace Setters 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
The Chargers found themselves in an early hole as the Setters scored three times in the bottom of the first. The best chance for New Haven came in the third as with two outs,
Matt Chamberlain (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) singled followed by a
Tom Walraven (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) walk, but the Blue and Gold was unable to convert the chance. Pace added two runs each in the fourth, fifth and eighth innings to extend its lead.
Â
Offensively, Chamberlain,
Andrew Garcia (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford),
PJ Contreras (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) and
Nick Russo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) each collected a hit.
Â
The Chargers are back in action on Thursday when they host Bridgeport in a non-conference game at Frank Vieira Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
