SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 23 University of New Haven softball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader to the Le Moyne Dolphins on Friday afternoon, being upended 8-0 and 11-1, both in five innings.
In the opener, New Haven started off on the right foot as
Sierra Whitlock (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) opened with a single and stole second before being stranded at third. The Dolphins responded with three runs each in the first and second and capped the game with two in the fifth.
In the second game, Le Moyne took a 3-0 lead before the Chargers responded with a run in the fourth.
Taylor Luzzi (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay) opened the inning with a double and remained on second base three batters later when
Tori Schiebe (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) also doubled to bring home Luzzi. The Dolphins got the run back and more in the bottom of the inning, scoring eight times to put the game away.
Overall on the day, Whitlock had three hits for New Haven and Schiebe had two.
New Haven returns to action on Saturday, April 29 when it closes the series and the regular season with a single game at Le Moyne. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
