WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team opened up the 2017 season at Kayo Field on Thursday evening, dropping a non-conference match to the University of Bridgeport by a 4-1 margin.
Freshman
Alessandro Pappalardo (Rome, Italy /Stamford) recorded the lone Charger goal on the evening, assisted by senior
Frank Norosky (Mystic, Conn./Fitch). In net, sophomore goalkeeper
Stefano Lorusso (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart College) made eight saves.
New Haven got its first shot on goal in the sixth minute, as freshman
Sukrija Dudic (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) tested the Bridgeport keeper early on. The two teams were scoreless in to the 43
rd minute of action until Pappalardo scored on a cross from Norosky, giving the Chargers a 1-0 advantage at the half.
Bridgeport answered quickly, capitalizing off of a missed pass to even up the score. Knotted at 1-1 for just seven minutes, Bridgeport took the lead, curling a free kick into the top left corner of the net. The Purple Knights scored twice more in the final frame to cement the final score.
New Haven, now 0-1-0, returns to action again as they travel to Felician University for a non-conference match on Sunday, September 3
