Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Wolonsavich Records Third Straight Shutout, Women's Soccer Plays Southern Connecticut to 0-0 (2OT) Draw

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team battled through their second-straight scoreless tie, settling for a 0-0 score against crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State at Jess Dow Field on Wednesday evening in Northeast-10 action.

With the Chargers not being able to push out a goal, New Haven has now been held scoreless for the last 256 minutes, last putting in a shot on September 6th against NYIT.

New Haven applied the pressure all night long with 18 total shots, 10 of them being on net. Senior Kelly Quigley (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury Memorial) led New Haven with three shots on goal, while seven other Chargers each had one.

New Haven saw a few of perhaps their best chances to score early in the match when Quigley, senior Rachel Dempsey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip), junior Marisa Pacapelli (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) and freshman Jenna Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) all fired shots on goal within a nearly four minutes of each other but were all stopped by Owl goalkeeper Gabrielle Arruda.

After a full 90 minutes of work already, goalkeeper Kyra Wolonsavich (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) was terrific in net for the Chargers in the first overtime as the Owls had several good looks at the goal from inside the penalty area. The junior registered four huge stops in the first overtime, including a crucial full extension diving stop toward the lower right corner of the net to keep the Chargers alive.

In the second overtime, exhaustion appeared to get the best of both teams, as neither team was able to record a shot in the final ten minutes of action.

The Chargers, now 3-0-2 on the season and 0-0-2 in NE10 play, are back in action at Saint Michael's on Saturday, September 16th. Match time at Janet L. Ficke Field in Colchester, Vt. is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
