SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Stephanie Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) kept her win streak at first singles intact, winning in straight sets as the University of New Haven women's tennis team (1-3, 0-2 NE10) dropped a 6-3 decision to Le Moyne College on Wednesday.
Gonzalez and doubles partner Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) each picked up two points in the match for New Haven. The pair combined to take down Le Moyne's Caroline St. Antonie and Amica Benoit-Limosani in the top doubles position by a final score of 9-7.
In singles play, Gonzalez and her competition Rithika Vajjravelu kept it close in the opening set with Gonzalez taking the 6-4 decision. She would then cruise to a 6-1 victory in the second set, earning her fourth win of the season at first singles. At second singles, Rodriguez battled a close match with Tiffany Hamdan, winning the point 6-4, 6-3.
The women's tennis team continues Northeast-10 action on Saturday when they travel to the Bay State for a 12:00 p.m. match against Bentley.
