WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven volleyball team opened up its home schedule at Charger Gymnasium with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-19) win over non-conference opponent Post University on Thursday night.

Junior Kristine Rios (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) completed her first triple double of the season and ninth of her career with 10 kills, 41 assists, and team-high 14 digs, while tying her career-high in service aces with four. Rios also finished with a .588 hitting percentage and did not suffer an attacking error on the night.

Joining Rios in leading the Chargers hitting efforts was senior Caroline Martins (Tres Pontas, Brazil) and freshman Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley). Martins finished her third match of the season in double figures with 13 kills, while Greathead also matched that amount and also added 12 digs on the evening.

Among the hitting leaders was also Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) who finished with a season-high 10 kills and only two errors in 17 total attempts for a .471 hitting average.

Junior libero Lindsey Kim (Rye Brook, N.Y./Blind Brook) had 13 digs for the Chargers, one of three Chargers in double figures in the defensive category.

As a team, the Chargers combined for five total blocks, led by senior Alex Bussey (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) who had two blocks and nine kills, good for a .400 hitting percentage. Rios, Nowicky, and senior Fernanda Da Silva also had one block each.

The Chargers return to action on the road for a tri-match with Wilmington and LIU Post in Brookville, N.Y. Both matches are set to take place on Saturday, September 16th at the Pratt Recreation Center on the campus of LIU Post. The Chargers will square off with the Wilmington Wildcats with first serve at 2:00 pm and will follow that up with a match against the LIU Post Pioneers at 4:00 pm.
