BOX SCORE WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Behind a match-high 12 kills from senior Caroline Martins (Tres Pontas, Brazil), the University of New Haven volleyball team swept Assumption (25-12, 25-16, 25-20) in its Northeast-10 Conference opener on Tuesday night at Charger Gym.
Martins 12 kills came courtesy of a .476 hitting percentage as she finished with a pair of errors in 21 attempts. She also added three aces on the night. Along with Martins, junior Kristine Rios (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) led the team with 21 assists in a 6-2 offense, while hitting at a .538 clip. She finished with eight kills and one error in 13 attempts. Junior Lindsey Kim (Rye Brook, N.Y./Blind Brook) led the Chargers defense with 16 digs.
Overall it was a strong team performance as the Blue and Gold had a combined 42 kills with five aces and 39 assists. Defensively, the Chargers finished with 36 digs and four blocks. New Haven held the Greyhounds to only 36 points on the night.
