MANCHESTER, N.H. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team battled at #21 Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 match on Wednesday evening, but fell short against the Penmen by a 3-0 score.
New Haven struggled to get the offense rolling in the first half with only one shot put on net by sophomore
Sorcha Ni Bhraonain (Galway, Ireland/Colaiste Cholmcille). Junior keeper
Kyra Wolonsavich (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) made four saves in the first half to keep the match scoreless, including two big saves within three seconds in the 27
th minute.
Southern New Hampshire's Trisha Luis took a shot just under a minute out of the locker room that went high, but beat Wolonsavich on an attempt to kick save just two minutes later as the Penmen took a 1-0 lead.
A foul in the box in the 82
nd minute gave the Penmen the opportunity to double their lead when Luis notched her second goal of the game on a penalty kick. Southern New Hampshire scored once more with 30 seconds remaining to grab the 3-0 win.
The Penmen dominated on the offensive end through the whole match, beating the Chargers in the shots category, 18-1. On the evening, Wolonsavich finished with seven saves.
The Chargers return to the pitch on Saturday, September 30
