WEST HAVEN, Conn. – It was an exciting afternoon for the University of New Haven women's soccer team as the Chargers took down the Queens College (N.Y.) Knights by a 2-1 score.
New Haven wasted no time on attack as sophomore
Sorcha Ni Bhraonain (Galway, Ireland/Colaiste Cholmcille) had the Chargers first clear look at the net just four minutes into the match, but a fully extended Knights keeper made a diving stop to keep New Haven off the board early. Queens followed with three opportunities in the corner, but the Chargers quickly took back the momentum when sophomore
Marisa Pacapelli (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) scored her first collegiate goal from just outside of the box in the 18
th minute of action, assisted by senior
Allison Morgan (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional).
Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) extended the Chargers lead in the 64
th minute when she collected a forward pass from sophomore
Megan Georges (Franklin, Mass./Franklin), took a touch around the defender to the inside and put in her first goal of the season. Morello's tally proved to be the eventual game-winner, as Queens cut the deficit in half 15 minutes later when a loose ball off a free kick went off Knights midfielder Alma Mana'o's body and dribbled into the goal.
New Haven was able to sustain the 2-1 lead into the final buzzer to improve to 2-0 on the year.
