Men's Soccer Drops Narrow 1-0 Decision at Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – An early second-half goal by the Bentley University Falcons proved to be the difference as the University of New Haven men's soccer team came up short on the road in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday, October 14.

Despite the final score line, the Chargers outshot the Falcons, 9-4, although none of New Haven's shots found the frame. Junior goalkeeper Stefano Lorusso (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart College) made the game's only save, stopping one shot during the first half. Bentley's David Price was credited with the shutout win despite not recording a save.

Junior defender Brian Silhan (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) and sophomore Alessandro Pappalardo (Rome, Italy/Stamford) tallied two shots apiece to lead the Charger attack. Julian Stewart was the lone Falcon with multiple shot attempts, while Kyle Archambault scored the game's only goal.

After a scoreless first half, Bentley opened the final 45 minutes on the attack as Matthew Tidona sent a ball into the box and Archambault knocked in the loose ball just 31 seconds into the stanza. New Haven had an opportunity to respond moments later when sophomore Estanislao Desseno (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Saint Patrick College) fired a shot off the post off of a free kick attempt. Trying to rally late, the Chargers had another opportunity during the 87th minute as graduate student Enrique Barboto (Tampa, Fla./Steinbrenner) also knocked one off the post and Bentley fended off a final corner kick during the 88th minute to keep New Haven scoreless.

The Chargers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 when they host Assumption College at Kathy Zolad Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
