Davis' Nine Saves Not Enough as Women's Soccer Falls at American International

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Two second-half goals proved to be the difference as the University of New Haven women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback at American International College on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Abdow Field.

The Yellow Jackets controlled the tempo of the match, limiting New Haven to just three total shots on goal, all coming during the final nine minutes of regulation. Junior Grace Scorcia (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining), senior Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park), and sophomore Samantha Roth (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) each tallied one shot on goal, while sophomore Jenna Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) led the Chargers with three shot attempts.

Sophomore Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) notched a solid performance in goal, stopping nine Yellow Jacket shots, her second-highest save total of the season. Davis kept American International in check during the opening 45 minutes with six of her nine saves coming during the first half.

Despite outshooting New Haven 13-2 during the opening stanza, American International could not find the back of the net and the two sides entered halftime tied, 0-0. Davis made one save during the 56th minute, but the persistent Yellow Jacket attack finally broke through during the 73rd minute as Anniina Sankoh finished off a pass from Devon Wondolowski for the game's opening goal. The home side put the match out of reach for good during the 82nd minute when Sankoh scored her second of the evening on an assist by Jennifer Hackett to help the Yellow Jackets improve to 7-8 overall on the year and 5-6 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

New Haven drops to 2-1-2 on the year and 0-10-1 in conference play with the loss. The Chargers will seek their first conference win of the season on Friday, Oct. 19 when they host Merrimack College under the lights of Kathy Zolad Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
