Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Drops NE10 Matchup to No. 10 LIU Post

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The University of New Haven field hockey team held the No. 10 ranked LIU Post squad scoreless for nearly 50-straight minutes, but the defensive effort was not enough as the Chargers fell to the Pioneers, 6-0 in Northeast-10 action on Tuesday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

New Haven tallied three chances on the day, with all three occurring in the second half. Freshman Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) led with two shots including one on goal, while classmate Alexis Rider (Delran, N.J./Delran) had New Haven's final shot on target. Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Shaker (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) recorded 15 saves, her second-highest save total of the season. Despite LIU Post's six goals, the Chargers defended all three Pioneer penalty corners successfully.

The Pioneers scored two early goals within the first five minutes and finished with 12 total shots by the midway point, however the Charger defense limited LIU Post to just those two goals during the first stanza. After not scoring a goal for the first 18 minutes to open up the second half, LIU Post added four goals within 16 minutes to put the game out of reach for the visitors.

New Haven will next play a second-straight nationally ranked team, as the No. 5 Stonehill Skyhawks will visit DellaCamera Stadium on Saturday, October 20 at 7:00 pm. For fans who are unable to attend, live stats and video will be available on the Charger Sports Network.
