Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 in Tough Battle with Defending NE10 Champion Adelphi

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's tennis team (4-2, 3-2 NE10) continued Northeast-10 action on Tuesday, falling to the 2017-18 NE10 defending champion Adelphi Panthers by a slim 4-3 margin at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

Adelphi caught momentum early on, capturing the one doubles point to begin singles play with the lead. New Haven was given one point at No. 6 singles, as junior Shelby Clyne (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) took a win by default. The Blue and Gold earned its first point from Caitlyn Burridge (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) at No. 5 singles, as the senior played a tough match against Ashley Manetta, battling to a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory to improve to 4-1 on the season. Freshman Nicole Mika (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs) earned her team-leading sixth overall and fifth dual match win of the season, as she edged out Karen Serina, 7-6, 5-2 at No. 4 singles.

New Haven will return to the court on Saturday, October 6 for a match at Saint Michael's. First serve at the Saint Michael's Tennis Courts in Colchester, Vt. is slated for 12:00 pm.
