Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Roth and Bergold Score in Women's Soccer's 4-2 Loss at Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. – After a scoreless first half, a slurry of goals over the final 45 minutes fell in favor of Saint Anselm as the New Haven women's soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision to the Hawks in its final road game of the 2018 campaign.

Both of the Chargers goals came from different players with sophomore Samantha Roth (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) scoring unassisted in the 69th minute and senior Emily Bergold (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) netting a goal in the 86th minute.

The Hawks broke the scoreless drought early in the second half scoring less than three minutes into the action before adding to their tally four minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. However, the Chargers would cut that deficit in half when Roth found the back of the net for the first time in 2018. Roth's goal came on the second shot in an offensive flurry that began with a Samantha Botsdorf shot being blocked and setting up a corner kick opportunity. Freshman Alyssa McMahon (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) served in the corner kick which eventually found the boot of Roth who was able to bury her shot for the goal.

After surrendering two more scores to the home team, New Haven answered the final Saint Anselm goal just 19 seconds later as Bergold used a feed from freshman forward Danielle DesRuisseaux (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Brady) to net her second goal of the season. New Haven looked to strike again in the final 90 seconds of the game, however the attempt from senior Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) went wide right. Overall, the Chargers registered 12 total shots with Roth leading the team, drilling four total.

Senior Kyra Wolonsavich (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) played the full 90 minutes in goal for New Haven adding seven saves to her season total. Overall, the net minder faced 16 shots from Saint Anselm.

The Chargers will close out the 2018 season on Saturday when they return to Kathy Zolad Stadium for a date with the Bentley Falcons. Prior to the game, the Chargers will honor seven members of the team who will play their final home game for the Blue and Gold; Emily Bergold (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue)Josette Breeden (Vacaville, Calif./Vanden), Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park), Marisa Pacapelli (West Haven, Conn./West Haven), Grace Scorcia (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining), Annie White (West Nyack, N.Y./Pearl River) and Kyra Wolonsavich (Beverly, Mass./Beverly). Kick off against the Falcons is slated for 1:00 p.m. Fans who are unable to attend the game can follow all the action live on the Charger Sports Network or with Live Stat links available at NewHavenChargers.com.
