Georges, McMahon Team Up for Two Goals as Women's Soccer Falls at Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team returned to the pitch on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Stonehill Skyhawks, 3-2 in Northeast-10 action at Skyhawk Field.

The Chargers matched its season-high of two goals, last tallied in the season opener against Georgain Court. Sophomore Megan Georges (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and freshman Alyssa McMahon (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) teamed up for both of those goals, but their efforts ultimately came up short.

Stonehill struck first in the 22nd minute, as Kayla Henry collected a through ball and put it home to the back right post on her first shot of the match. The Blue and Gold leveled the score at the 41-minute mark, as McMahon sent Georges on a breakaway for her first goal of the season. Stonehill had a quick answer however, as Henry tipped in her second goal of the game as the Skyhawks re-gained the lead just under two minute later.

New Haven had a solid opportunity to tie things back up, as McMahon took a free kick from 25 yards away that was saved by Stonehill's keeper, Kaitlin Brown. The home team re-gained possession within a minute, as the Skyhawks increased the lead to two with a goal by Elizabeth Nerger. Senior Marisa Pacapelli (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) attempted to cut into the lead with a shot punched over the crossbar by Brown. Georges nearly tied things up in the 76th minute with a shot that hit the crossbar, but McMahon was right there for the rebound to head the ball home for her first career goal to cut the score to one. The Blue and Gold put two more shots on goal late in the half, but the comeback fell short as time expired just after a Charger corner kick.

Wolonsavich got her first start of the season in goal, making a career-high 13 saves in the full 90 minutes.

The Chargers will continue action on Saturday, October 6 at Assumption. Match time at Multi-Sport Stadium is slated for 6:00 pm.
