Women's Soccer Drops Overtime Contest at Assumption, 1-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – After holding Assumption College scoreless through 90 minutes, the University of New Haven women's soccer team was upended by the Greyhounds during the eighth minute of the first overtime period on the road on Saturday, Oct. 6.

It was a great defensive performance by the Chargers who were outshot by the Greyhounds, 29-5. Senior goalkeeper Kyra Wolonsavich (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) improved upon her career-high 13 save effort against Stonehill College on Wednesday by making 15 stops on the evening. Wolonsavich compiled 11 saves during the opening 45 minutes, two during the second half, and two during overtime to keep the Greyhounds in check for 97 minutes.

New Haven generated just two shots on goal, with the first coming during the 62nd minute. The best opportunity of the evening came on a counter attack during the extra period when Alexis Nason denied junior Megan Georges (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) 3:28 into the period. After three quick shot attempts, Assumption earned a corner kick during the 97th minute and Jessica FitzGerald put home a loose ball in the box, giving the Greyhounds the 1-0 victory.

The Chargers return to action at Kathy Zolad Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 10 when they host Adelphi University under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
