Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Kerr's 20 Points Leads Women's Basketball in 67-46 Win Over Post

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Behind a 20-point performance from senior guard Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair), the University of New Haven women's basketball team scored a 67-46 victory over the Post University Eagles, closing out the two-day Bridgeport Conference Crossover Classic with a perfect 2-0 record.

I am very proud of the two-day performance we had," said head coach Deborah Buff. "I thought collectively we really committed to defense and sharing the basketball for two games. Today our defense was stellar, holding Post to 46 points and forcing 31 turnovers. If we continue to commit to defense and sharing the ball we can do great things this year."

Kerr's 20 points was part of three players in double figures, joined by freshman guard Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) (16 points) and junior Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) (11 points). With her 16 points against the Eagles, DeBose has registered double digits in each of her first two games in a Blue and Gold uniform, while Wormack has also scored in double figures in both games.

The Chargers defense remained a high point for the second straight game, forcing the Eagles into 31 turnovers, on top of 27 a day earlier against Bridgeport. Against Post, New Haven turned those 31 turnovers into 31 points, finishing with a 31-19 advantage in points off turnovers. Additionally, New Haven showed off its speed, owning a 14-4 advantage in fast break points.

As a team, New Haven closed out its second game of the season with a 48.1 percent shooting average, connecting on 25-of-52 field goal attempts. Included were a trio of three point buckets, while finishing 14-of-22 at the free throw line. The Chargers best shooting came in the opening half where they finished at a 58.3 percent clip, making 8-of-14 from the field.

Post did close out the game with a 32-27 advantage on the boards, while New Haven's rebounding efforts were led for the second game in a row by Kerr who finished with nine. Overall, eight different players finished with at least one rebound.

Defensively, senior Allieyah Cubbage (North Plainfield, N.J./Roselle Catholic) and Kerr led the way with seven and five steals, respectively, as the team combined for 17 total. The seven steals for Cubbage set a new career-high, while Kerr's five steals tied her previous career best. The Chargers also combined for six total blocks with Wormack leading the way with three, while Katia Oge (New City, N.Y./Immaculate Heart Academy) added a pair.

New Haven will continue its three-game season-opening road trek with the final contest coming in Philadelphia, Pa. where the Chargers will take on Chestnut Hill. That game is scheduled for Thursday, November 15 with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
