Felizor Double Double Leads Men's Basketball in 87-67 NE10 Opening Win Over Adelphi

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Behind five guys in double figures, including the first double double of the season from junior Kessly Felizor (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown), the New Haven men's basketball team opened up its home schedule with an 87-67 victory over the visiting Adelphi Panthers. Felizor closed out the afternoon with 11 points and 10 boards, going a perfect 5-of-5 from the field.

Joining him in leading the Chargers was junior Roy Kane, Jr. (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) and redshirt-sophomore Derrick Rowland (Cohoes, N.Y./Green Tech) who each finished with a team-best 16 points. Both also finished with great numbers from the field as Rowland closed out the game 7-of-9 from the field and Kane going 7-of-12.

Freshman Kian Dalyrimple (Dix Hills, N.Y.) provided a glimpse of his scoring ability, coming off the bench to score 13 points, including a team-high three from beyond the three-point arc, while junior Elijah Bailey (Freeport, N.Y./The Hotchkiss School) rounded out the leading scorers with 12 points. Nearly the entire starting lineup finished in double figures as freshman point guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J. /Trenton Catholic Academy) closed out his first game at Charger Gymnasium with nine points, while leading the team with five assists.

Overall as a team, New Haven finished the night shooting 61.4 percent from the field, the highest team shooting percentage since February 18, 2017 when they shot 71.1 percent against Pace. Included in the 35-of-57 field goals that were made were 10 buckets from beyond the three point arc, led by Dalyrimple's three. The Blue and Gold also finished 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

Felizor's 10 rebounds led the Charges as they closed out the game with a 38-24 advantage in the battle of the boards as seven other players joined in the rebounding efforts. Following Felizor was the rookie point guard Lane who finished with six, while Bailey and redshirt-freshman Ross Jones, II each finished with five.

Defensively, New Haven excelled in its blocking game, closing out the game with 10 total, the most in a single game since finishing with 11 against Saint Rose on December 10, 2013. Individually, Rowland led the way with four blocks, setting a career-high. In addition, Kane and Dalyrimple each contributed a pair.

The Chargers will remain on their home court through the next week, hosting a pair of games over the next seven days. First on the docket will be a second-straight Northeast-10 contest when the American International Yellow Jackets visit Charger Gymnasium on Tuesday, November 20.
