WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's tennis team continued its spring schedule after a night's rest, getting right back into action against the University of the Sciences for a non-conference match. The Chargers fell to the Devils, 5-4 on a cold and Sunny afternoon at the University of New Haven tennis courts.

For the second-straight day, New Haven won two of its three doubles matches, as the freshman pair of Stephanie Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) and Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) completed the weekend-sweep at No. 1 doubles, defeating Karla Miletic and Abby Gamarnik in a tiebreak, 9-8 (7-3). Sophomores Angela Mercurio (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip) and Shelby Clyne (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) teamed up for their first win of the spring season at third doubles, taking down Julia James and Gabbie Soriano, 8-4.

At No. 2 singles, Rodriguez bounced back from Saturday's match to earn a straight-set singles victory over Abby Gamarnik, 6-4, 6-2. Clyne continued her impressive play at No. 6 singles against Jillyan Serrano, defeating her opponent 6-3 in the first set before sailing to a 6-1 set two victory.

The women's tennis team continues its non-traditional season on Tuesday, April 10 for a re-match against Post University at the New Haven Tennis Courts. First serve against the Eagles is slated for 7:00 pm under the lights.
