PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) continued her hot start to the 2018 season, as the senior net two goals in a 3-0 University of New Haven women's soccer win over Post on Saturday afternoon.
In addition to Morello's efforts, the defense was outstanding for the Chargers, holding Post to only four total shots for the entire game. Sophomore Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) and senior Kyra Wolonsavich (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) combined for their first shutout of the year, with Davis making the only two saves of the match for the Blue and Gold. For the day, the Chargers out-shot the Eagles, 26-4.
Morello found the back of the net from about 30 yards out on just her first shot of the day in only the sixth minute of the match, assisted by sophomore Sorcha Ni Bhraonain (Galway, Ireland/Colaiste Cholmcille). She added a second goal in the 30th minute, using her speed to eventually have the opportunity to place her shot in the bottom left corner of the net for her fourth goal of the season in just 120 minutes of action.
The Chargers put the match out of reach for the Eagles in the 62nd minute, when Ni Bhraonain added her second helper of the day, crossing the ball to freshman Mackenzie Myers (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown), who headed the ball in for her first collegiate goal.
Also leading the charge on offense was senior Marisa Pacapelli (West Haven, Conn./West Haven), who registered five total shots, including three on goal. In addition to Morello, Myers and Pacapelli, Ni Bhraonain, sophomore Jenna Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) and senior Annie White (West Nyack, N.Y./Pearl River) all recorded a shot on goal.
New Haven will rest up for exactly one week, returning to action on Saturday, September 8 at Franklin Pierce for the NE10 opener. Kick off at Sodexo Field is slated for 7:00 pm, and for fans who are unable to attend, live stats and video will be available on www.NewHavenChargers.com.
