Women's Soccer Blanked at Franklin Pierce in NE10 Opener

RINDGE, N.H. – The New Haven women's soccer team suffered its first setback of the season Saturday, dropping a 3-0 decision to Franklin Pierce University in the team's Northeast-10 Conference opener at Sodexo Field.

The Ravens held the upper-hand for much of the match, outshooting the Chargers 26-3. Despite the offensive pressure, sophomore Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) made five of her 11 saves during the opening 45 minutes, allowing just one goal during the 35th minute. Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Casey Kane needed just one save during the first half to keep the Chargers scoreless, stopping an attempt by freshman Emily Mendel (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) during the 15th minute.

Junior Sorcha Ni Bhraonain (Galway, Ireland/Colaiste Cholmcille) found the target with an attempt early in the second half but was turned away by Kane for her final save of the day. The Ravens pulled away with two more second-half goals to earn the 3-0 victory.

New Haven slips to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in NE10 play while Franklin Pierce remains unbeaten at 2-0 and 1-0 in NE10 action.

The Chargers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 12 when they host Southern Connecticut State at Kathy Zolad Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
