Efficient Hitting Leads to Sweep of Assumption in NE10 Opener

WORCESTER, Mass. – One of the most efficient hitting efforts in a single set helped lead the New Haven women's volleyball team to a three-set sweep of Assumption in the Northeast-10 opener for both teams. The Chargers closed out the match, finishing without an error in the final set while placing 19 kills down in 27 attempts for a .704 attack percentage.

Overall for the match, New Haven finished with a .415 attack percentage, suffering just five total errors in 94 attempts while slamming 44 hammers. Leading the way individually was sophomore Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley), the only Charger to finish in double figures as she secured 10 kills on a .375 average. Following her in leading the team was Kristine Rios (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef), who is fresh off of being named the NE10 Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Rios finished with nine kills on a .421 average, while leading the Blue and Gold's two-setter rotation with 23 assists.

The Chargers rookie hitters also fared well with Sydney Strasner (Corona, Calif./Santiago) and Jalynn Finnie (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) combining for eight total kills while neither suffered an error in 16 total attempts. Rounding out the leading hitters was junior Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) who finished with eight kills and a .538 average. As a team, New Haven also combined for seven service aces with Rios leading the way with three.

Defensively, New Haven was led by its senior libero Brianna Mirmina (Bethany, Conn./Amity Regional) who led all players in the match with 19 digs, one of two Chargers in double figures. Joining her was classmate and defensive specialist Lindsey Kim (Rye Brook, N.Y./Blind Brook) who added 11 defensive stops.
