White Nets First-Career Goal in 1-1 Double-Overtime Draw versus Saint Michael's

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team battled for a full 110 minutes, but settled for a 1-1 double-overtime draw at Kathy Zolad Stadium on Saturday, September 15 against the Saint Michael's Purple Knights in a Northeast-10 conference matchup.

It was the first time all season that the Chargers saw extra time, racking up a 20 total shots with seven shots on goal. The Blue and Gold dominated on the offensive end with those 20 total shots, while the defense limited the Purple Knights to only nine shots for the entire contest. Leading the offense were seniors Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and Annie White (West Nyack, N.Y./Pearl River), with White registering three total shots on goal. White also connected on the lone Charger goal on the contest for her first career goal, a penalty shot in the 30th minute. In goal, sophomore Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) made five total saves.

New Haven played up-tempo all night long, but made its first threat when freshman Emily Mendel (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) fired a high shot that was just barely tipped by the goalkeeper's fingertips. After a foul in the box six minutes later, White sent her penalty shot to the lower right corner of the net for the 1-0 advantage.

Saint Michael's knotted up the match in the 60th minute, as Emily Durette slid and scored on a deflected ball. The Chargers sent four-straight shots within five minutes and Morello had one final attempt to put the game away in the 89th minute, but her shot just barely went wide right to send the match into its first overtime period.

In double overtime, New Haven had all the momentum it could have possibly had with three strikes in just over one minute. Sophomore Jenna Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme), Morello and freshman Danielle DesRuisseaux (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Brady) all had opportunities in the final minutes to seal the match, but were unable to do so as the time wound down to zero.

With the tie, New Haven moves to 2-2-1 on the season and is 0-2-1 in the NE10. Saint Michael's improves to 1-2-1 overall and 0-1-1 in league action.

Next on tap for the Blue and Gold is an NE10 matchup at Pace on Tuesday, September 18. Kick-off against the Setters is slated for 4:00 pm at Pace Stadium. For fans who are unable to attend, live stats and video will be available.
