Early Goal Sinks Women's Soccer in 1-0 Setback at Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team saw an unlucky defeat on Tuesday evening at Pace Stadium, falling to the Pace University Setters, 1-0 in an NE10 matchup.

The Setters needed less than 90 seconds and two shots to come away with the victory, as Grace Incledon took a shot from a sharp angle left of the net five yards away from the goal. Within the next 22 minutes, senior Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) put two shots on goal before senior Grace Scorcia's (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) strike nailed the crossbar. After a corner kick in the 42nd minute, junior Tana Tufts (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) header shot went just wide. Sophomore keeper Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) made one more stop just before halftime to hold the match at 1-0.

Pace opened the second half with momentum, as the Setters combined for three corner kicks and two shots, including one by Incledon that hit the post within ten minutes of the second stanza. Davis made on additional stop, before New Haven saw its final opportunity in the final minute when sophomore Jordan Nichols (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) shot was blocked and senior Marisa Pacapelli's (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) rebound shot was saved by goalkeeper Morgan Jones.

By the end of the evening, shots were equal, 1-1, while Pace had the upper hand on shots on goal, 7-5. Davis made six total saves in goal, and leading the Charger offense on the Night was sophomore Samantha Roth (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) who had three total shots including two on goal.

With the setback, the Chargers slip to 2-3-1 on the season and 0-3-1 in the NE10. The Setters improve to 3-4 on the year and 1-3 in the NE10.

The Blue and Gold returns to action on Saturday, September 22 for an NE10 contest at Le Moyne. Kickoff at Ted Grant Field in Syracuse, N.Y. is slated for 1:30 pm. For fans who are unable to attend, live stats and video will be available on the Charger Sports Network.
