Men's Soccer Stumbles at Home Versus Le Moyne

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team continued NE10 action on Saturday, but was blanked by the Le Moyne Dolphins, 3-0 at Kathy Zolad Stadium.

Le Moyne had the momentum for a majority of the contest with 13 shots compared to the Chargers eight, however New Haven did have the advantage on corner kicks, 5-2. For New Haven, graduate student Enrique Barboto (Tampa, Fla./Steinbrenner) led the offense with two shots, while junior Nate Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme), senior Aurochit Patnaik (Mumbai, India/St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.)), and JP Viruet (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) each had a shot on goal. Sophomore Justin Dansereau (Billerica, Mass./Central Catholic) played all 90 minutes in goal, making five saves on the day.

Le Moyne got on the board first, finding the back of the net in just the 12th minute of action when Salar Faryar got around a New Haven defender and shot to Dansereau's lower left corner for the the 1-0 lead. The match became heated for both teams as two yellow cards were assessed in five minutes. During the span, New Haven saw one of its best opportunities on the day, firing three-straight shots in just 15 seconds, as Peduzzi's shot on goal was stopped by a diving Josh Mahr before sophomore Alessandro Pappalardo (Rome, Italy/Stamford) collected the rebound and had his shot blocked. Barboto had the next rebound and his shot was blocked as well.

Le Moyne added a second goal in the 33rd minute, as Marek Weber curled in the ball from the left side of the net to increase the Dolphin lead to two. Just before the first frame ended, Patnaik had a shot saved for the final Charger attempt of the first half.

The Blue and Gold tallied four shots in the second stanza, including two in the last four minutes of action, but were unable to catch up to the Dolphins who added one last goal in the 82nd minute to cap the match at 3-0.

After a short break, the Chargers return to action on Tuesday, September 25 for a match at American International. Time of the game is slated for 7:00 pm. For fans who are unable to attend, live stats and video will be available on the Charger Sports Network.
