Peduzzi Scores, Men's Soccer Succumbs to Franklin Pierce, 3-1

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team rounded out Homecoming weekend, falling to the Franklin Pierce Ravens, 3-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Kathy Zolad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Chargers totaled just eight total shots, including three on goal. Senior Aurochit Patnaik (Mumbai, India/St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.)) tallied two shots on goal, while Nate Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) added a third, the Chargers lone goal of the game.

After a scoreless first half, New Haven found the back of the mesh first, as graduate student Simao Sousa Branca (Porto, Portugal/Colegio Luso Internacional do Porto) fed in a perfect cross to find the head of Peduzzi for a 1-0 Charger lead. It took just under two minutes for Franklin Pierce to level the score, as Kidino Jones sent a through ball to Yannik Felber who shot to goalkeeper Stefano Lorusso's (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart College) right side. Felber added his second goal of the match in the 75th minute before Jones put the match out of reach for the Chargers in the 84th minute.

Despite the defeat, Lorusso played well in goal, tallying a season-high eight saves including several impressive stops in the first half.

The Blue and Gold will next travel to Merrimack for a rescheduled match on Wednesday, October 3. Kickoff at Martone-Mejail Field in North Andover, Mass. is slated for 7:00 pm.
