WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team (0-4) opened up its season at Kathy Zolad Stadium on Saturday evening, falling to the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans (3-1) by a score of 2-0.

St. Thomas Aquinas had the advantage on total shots, 17-12. New Haven had seven corner kick opportunities on the night and did not allow St. Thomas Aquinas to have a single corner kick opportunity.

New Haven put five shots on goal on the night, led by senior Abdullah Alamoudi (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia/Arafat) who had three total chances. Senior Aurochit Patnaik (Mumbai, India/St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.)) and senior Mawasi Charles (Barataria, Trinidad/St. Anthony's College) also had one shot on goal. In the full 90 minutes, junior goalkeeper Stefano Lorusso (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart College) made three stops.

New Haven saw some of its best opportunities midway through the first half, when the Chargers had three-straight corner kick opportunities before graduate student Enrique Barboto's (Tampa, Fla./Steinbrenner) strike went wide left. The first half nearly went scoreless, before the Spartans rebounded a shot off the post that was quickly booted in. Charles nearly converted in the the 69th minute with a header shot that was saved by St. Thomas Aquinas' Jack Nicholson. St. Thomas Aquinas added another goal in the 71st minute off of a free kick curled in just outside the box.
