West Haven, Conn- A pair of late goals lifted the New Haven women's soccer team to its second NE10 conference victory of the season, defeating Franklin Pierce 2-1.
The Chargers defense shutout the Ravens in the first half, only allowing two shots on goal, while New Haven out shot Franklin Pierce eleven to five, placing six shots on goal.
Coming into the second half the Ravens took an early lead scoring in the 48th minute. The Chargers didn't back down, tying the game in the 60th minute, when
Tana Tufts (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) provided a forward pass to teammate
Mackenzie Myers (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown), who crossed it to
Jenna Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) for the header goal.
New Haven's offense continued to role with
Samantha Roth (Hicksville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) touching in the game-winning tally assisted by
Sorcha Ni Bhraonain (Galway, Ireland/Colaiste Cholmcille) in the 82
nd minute.
Goalkeeper
Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) collected seven saves of the eight shots on goal. The Ravens kept pushing the envelope, taking five shots in the final 18 minutes of the game. New Haven's defense remained strong, pushing them out of the box and blocking three of those five shots.
The Chargers will be back in action a week from today Saturday October 19th, hosting Le Moyne in a conference matchup at 1:00 p.m.
