RINDGE, N.H. – The New Haven men's soccer team surrendered a pair of early goals and was not able to recover as Franklin Pierce shutout the Chargers 3-0 on Wednesday night. Senior
Stefano Lorusso (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart College) made seven saves in goal, his second-most in a game this season.
Franklin Pierce (9-3-2, 7-2 NE10) amassed 18 shots on the night, 10 of which were on target. The Ravens also held a 2-1 edge in corners.
The Ravens cracked the scoreboard in the fifth minute of action on an unassisted tally. That was followed by another goal in the 20th minute when Antonio Ferreira scored off a give-and-go on a through-ball for the early 2-0 lead.
Still a 2-0 game coming out of halftime, the Ravens connected on another insurance goal when Yanik Felber took a pass through the right slot and touched it home to put the Ravens up 3-0 in the 68th minute.
The Chargers' lone shot attempt of the second half came from freshman
Jon Calvo (Vitoria, Spain/Olabide Ikastola) in the 60th minute, but his attempt was saved.
New Haven will return home for Senior Day on Saturday as the Chargers will take on Bentley at 4 p.m. at Kathy Zolad Stadium. The team will honor its five members of the 2019 senior class prior to the match.
