WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Junior middle
Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) hammered a career-high 16 kills to lead the New Haven women's volleyball team to a four-set win over the visiting Adelphi Panthers on Wednesday night at Charger Gymnasium. In addition to her career-high kills, Garden also finished with a match-best .407 attack average with five kills in 27 attempts.
Overall, Garden was one of three players to finish in double figures for the Blue and Gold with freshman
Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) tying her career-high with 13 kills and senior
Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) finishing with a dozen kills. Barry surrendered just two errors in 29 swings to equal a .379 attack percentage, while Nowicki also hit well with a .290 average on three miscues in 31 total attempts.
Leading New Haven to a team-hitting average of .203 for the match was the setting duo of junior
Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) and freshman
Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) who closed out the night with 32 and 14 assists, respectively. Also among the offensive leaders was junior
Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) who added four points to the Chargers tally on service aces, leading her team to eight total on the night.
Defensively, the Blue and Gold were led by the rookie libero
Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) and sophomore
Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) who each chipped in 17 digs. Fera added those 17 digs to eight kills to complete her evening. Rounding out the defensive leaders was Greathead who finished with 11 digs while 10 different players all contributed at least one dig apiece.
New Haven will return to action at Charger Gymnasium this weekend when they host the Southern New Hampshire Penmen for a Northeast-10 Conference battle. First serve between the Chargers and Penmen is slated for 1:00 p.m.
