WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven volleyball team secured its third sweep of the season taking down regional foe Caldwell 25-16, 25-15, 25-8. Leading the Chargers on the night was junior hitter
Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) who was the only player to finish in double figures for the match with 12 kills.
Greathead's 12 kills came on 25 attempts with just two miscues for a .400 attack percentage. Joining her in leading the Blue and Gold was junior
Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) and sophomore
Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) who finished with nine and eight kills respectively. Freshman
Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) (7 kills) and senior
Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) (5 kills) rounded out New Haven's offense.
Overall, New Haven combined for 45 total kills with the Chargers two setter rotation leading the Blue and Gold to a .314 attacking percentage for the night. Among the two setters, junior
Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) led the way with 26 assists while her rookie counterpart added an additional 12.
New Haven also combined to drop in 10 service aces, the third time this season with double digits. Six different players all chipped in with unreturned serves with four of those individuals all dropping in a pair.
Defensively, the Chargers were led by their rookie libero
Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) who returned 16 of the Cougars attacking attempts, one of three players in double figures. Joining her was Chan and Greathead who each finished with 11 digs to close out the night with a double double.
The Chargers also finished with five blocks as a team, led by Garden who finished with three. Sophomore
Jalynn Finnie (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) added two blocks, while three other players also contributed.
New Haven will enjoy a week hiatus before returning to the court for a midweek non-conference battle with regional foe Bridgeport. The battle of I-95 is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. at Charger Gymnasium.
