GARDEN CITY, N.J. – Goalkeeper Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) collected 12 saves, but an 88th minute goal from Adelphi sunk the New Haven women's soccer team 1-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference battle. The 12 saves for Davis was one shy of her career-high, while it is the third time this season she has recorded double digit saves.
Neither team would find the back of the net through the first 87 minutes. In the opening half, the Chargers defense shut out the Panthers despite facing seven total shots. Just three of those shots forced Davis to make a stop.
She would collect nine more saves in the second half, including a crucial stop on a penalty kick from Adelphi in the 57th minute. Davis read the attempt from Erica Bleimeyer perfectly as she went to her left to block the 1-on-1 shot.
Seconds into the 88th minute, Adelphi's Alexsis Weiser net her sixth goal of the season as she connected with Jacklyn Lada for the game-winner. The Panthers held New Haven to just four shots, two of which were registered on goal. The best scoring opportunity for the Chargers came early in the second half when Jenna Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Old Lyme) sent a cross into the box where Tana Tufts (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) got a boot on it but her attempt deflected off the crossbar and out of danger.
The Chargers return to action on Tuesday, October 8 when they travel to Mercy. The non-conference finale against the Mavericks is scheduled for a noon start time in the midday matinee at Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
