Women's Soccer Falls Short in Non-Conference Finale

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The New Haven women's soccer team fell short in their final non-conference matchup against Mercy College, falling 2-0. The Mavericks took the lead in the first half and topped off the win adding another goal in the second half.

The Chargers defense was put to work early in the game, with the Mavericks taking nine shots total, seven of which were one goal. Junior goalkeeper Paige Davis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) closed out the opening half with six saves. Mercy broke the stalemate in the first half when Jessica Brandt presented a breakaway to teammate Kaitlyn Denning, who found the back of the net.

In the second half, the Chargers mustered four shots, two on goal. Defensively, the Chargers held the Mavericks to three shots, one on goal which added an insurance score to the Mavericks tally.

The Chargers will return home and to conference play Saturday, October 12 to face Franklin Pierce. Kickoff at Kathy Zolad Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
