Nowicki Smacks 1,000th Career Kill as Chargers Fall in Four at Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior right side hitter Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) drilled her team-leading ninth kill of the match to close out the third set with a victory while at the same time becoming the newest member of the 1,000 kill club at New Haven. The Chargers dropped a four-set decision to NE10 leading Bentley on Thursday night, closing out the regular season with a 16-9 overall record and a 9-4 mark in NE10 action.

Nowicki's nine kills was the most among five leading hitters for the Chargers with sophomore Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) just behind her with eight hammers. Junior Kali Greathead (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) and freshman Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) followed with seven kills apiece while junior Camille Garden (Atlanta, Ga./Landmark Christian) rounded out the leaders with six.

Among all the leading hitters, Nowicki again led the way with a .182 average with her nine kills coming on 33 attempts with a trio of errors. As a team, the Chargers closed out the night hitting .128 with a combined total of 29 kills across six different players with sophomore Jalynn Finnie (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) rounding out the offense with a pair of kills that came on five attempts with no errors.

Marshaling the Chargers offense was their setting duo of junior Angela Chan (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny) and freshman Sammie Paguia (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) who finished with 17 and 14 assists, respectively. Both were also involved on the defensive end of the floor as they finished with seven and six digs, respectively.

Leading the defense overall was sophomore outside hitter Ruby Fera (Seattle, Wash./Ballard) who finished with 18 digs, one of three players in double figures. Following Fera was Greathead with 17 digs and freshman libero Julia Guarniere (Milford, N.H./Milford) with 12, while nine different players all finished with at least three digs. The Chargers also combined for seven total blocks with Garden and Barry leading the way with four and three total blocks, respectively.

New Haven will now await its final positioning in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference championship with the top four teams in the eight-team field hosting a quarterfinal match-up on Tuesday, November 19.
