Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) picked up her 10th career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore
Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) added 11 points, four rebounds and four steals, and junior
Brie Pergola (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) scored 11 points, while setting a new career-high in rebounds for the second straight game with nine. Freshman
Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) totaled 10 point and five rebounds on 4-of-6 shooting.
New Haven outrebounded the Purple Knights 42-39 and finished the game shooting 33.9 percent from the floor. The Chargers dished out 11 assists on 19 made field goals, including a team-high three from Pergola. Defensively, New Haven came away with 13 steals and forced 25 UB turnovers. New Haven is off to a 2-0 start on the season, while Bridgeport drops to 0-3.
FIRST QUARTER
- After Bridgeport cut the Chargers' early lead to 8-7, New Haven scored six unanswered to go up 14-7, highlighted by jumpers from Wormack and junior Jasmine White (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's), and a pair of free throws from DeBose.
- UB used a jumper in the final minute to cut the lead to 14-9 after one quarter.
- New Haven had eight points off nine Bridgeport turnovers in the first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
- Bridgeport climbed back to tie the game 14-14 as the Chargers were held scoreless over the first 5:42 of the period.
- Following a New Haven timeout, the Chargers responded with a 7-0 counter of their own to take a 21-14 lead.
- Pergola ended the Chargers' drought at the 4:18 mark with a jumper, Wormack scored three straight points, and the run culminated with a big offensive rebound by Pergola, who fed Deshaies from a seated position underneath for a layup to put New Haven up by seven.
- New Haven held Bridgeport to just one made field goal over their final 13 attempts of the half, including a 2-for-15 clip in the second quarter.
THIRD QUARTER
- A quick 6-0 Chargers run over the first 2:16 of the period boosted the New Haven lead to 14 points as Bridgeport called for a timeout. Wormack capped the run with a fastbreak layup off an assist from Luzdali Ocasio (Davenport, Fla./New Hampton) to make it 29-14.
- A jumper from the Purple Knights at the 6:22 mark broke a 1-for-17 streak to make it 29-17.
- Six straight from New Haven upped their run in the period to 12-2 as DeBose scored four fastbreak points to build New Haven's lead to 18 points, 35-17 at the 3:43 mark.
- The Chargers would get the led to 19 points on two occasions in the final 1:34 of the period, and held a 42-23 lead after three quarters.
- The Chargers shot 46.2 percent (6-for-13) in the frame, their highest percentage of the night.
FOURTH QUARTER
- The Purple Knights outscored New Haven 19-13 over the final 10 minutes, shooting just under 43 percent in the quarter.
- A pair of free throws from Wormack grew the lead to a game-high 21 points at 46-25 at the 6:24 mark.
- Kim Talley (Quakertown, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) made it 50-30 with a jumper with 4:33 remaining before Bridgeport ran off a 12-4 run to cut their deficit to 12 in the final minute.
