WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Grace Loeffler (Boca Raton, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) each scored twice, but No. 16/18 University of New Haven fell to No. 1 Le Moyne, 16-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Kathy Zolad Stadium.
Six different Chargers put up points, which was led by the two goals both Maher and Loeffler scored. Samantha Galler (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) was also able to find the back of the net as she scored once. Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford), Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) each tallied an assist.
Gianna Guerra (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) took on a tough Dolphins offense and had 14 saves in goal, facing 31 shots on the day. Erica Rinsky (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) came into the game with just under five minutes to play and had one save. Skelly, Linton, Alyssa Bourque (Goffstown, N.H./Goffstown), and Lyndsay Miller (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) each had a caused turnover. Linton and Zoe Wilkins (Plainfield, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) both picked up three ground balls.
New Haven had the lead in draw controls, 12-10. Linton picked up five, Nolan had four and Reh had three on the day.
Le Moyne took an early 4-0 lead before Reh connected with Loeffler who scored her first goal of the game to New Haven on the board. The Dolphins countered quickly and was able to put together a string of five goals before Maher collected the one timer from Nolan for her first of the game.
New Haven was able to score first in the second half as Galler notched her 13th goal of the season, gathering the pass from Jette. After a quick Dolphins goal, Maher fired her second of the game to get the Chargers within seven. Guerra made some crucial stops as the Dolphins continued to press. Loeffler capped the scoring for the Chargers, as she was able to capitalize on a free position attempt.
New Haven hits the road for another matchup against a nationally ranked opponent, taking on No. 20 Assumption on Saturday, March 30. Opening draw at Multi-Sport Stadium is set for 1:00 pm.
