Skelly Nets Four Goals, No. 16/18 Women's Lacrosse Drops 16-10 Decision at No. 20 Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman midfielder Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connequot) scored a career-high four goals but No. 16/18 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-10 decision at No. 20 Assumption on Saturday afternoon.

Skelly was one of five Chargers who scored on the afternoon. Kendra Nolan (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) scored her fourth hat trick of the season. Samantha Galler (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), Mackenzie Reh (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) and Raven Linton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) each scored once. Julia Jette (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) led the team with three assists, followed by Caroline Maher (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) who had two and Grace Loeffler (Boca Raton, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) who had one.

For the second game in a row, Gianna Guerra (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) had 14 saves in goal. Nolan pulled in a team-best six draw controls, while Reh and Linton each had two. Reh and Linton both had a team-high three caused turnovers, whereas Alyssa Bourque (Goffstown, N.H./Goffstown) and Hailey Lyne (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) each had two.

The Chargers took an early 3-0 lead as Skelly found the back of the net on a free position attempt within the first two minutes of play. Galler and Skelly would score, both from Maher, within a minute of each other to extend the lead to three goals. The Greyhounds saw an offensive surge, scoring eight unanswered goals.

Skelly broke up the eight-goal run by Assumption, netting her third of the game to complete her hat trick. The Greyhounds would score three more times before the half.

Coming out of the halftime break, Nolan netted her first of the game, collecting the pass from Jette, in the first minute of the second half. The Greyhounds capitalized on a man-up free position opportunity to retake a six-goal lead. Jette once again connected with Nolan who fired home her second goal of the game.

After a scoreless 10 minutes of game time, the Greyhounds broke through and scored two goals before the Chargers got back on the board. Linton scored her third goal of the season on a free position opportunity. Loeffler connected with Skelly, who netted her fourth of the game to get back within six goals. Assumption responded scoring twice more. Nolan and Reh rounded out the scoring on the day, both scoring a goal 23 seconds apart from each other.

The Chargers close out the two-game road swing, traveling to No. 15 Pace on Tuesday April 2nd. Opening draw against the Setters is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
