WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) and freshman Nicole Mika (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs) each earned singles victories as the University of New Haven women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to fellow Nutmeg State team Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon.
Mika closed out her victory surrendering just four sets, taking a 6-1, 6-3 decision at the third singles position of the Camels' Stephanie Simon. The victory, which was her 11th singles victory of the season ties her for the team lead.
After surrendering her first set 6-3, Rodriguez forced a deciding set with a 6-4 decision to tie the match at one before winning the tie breaker 10-7 to earn her 10th singles victory of the season. The meeting will be the second between the two teams with the Chargers taking a 7-0 decision during the fall season with that match taking place in Springfield.
